AroarA came about from the meeting of two Montreal musicians, Andrew Whiteman and Ariel Engle. One is a member of Broken Social Scene, the other has lent his thrilling voice to various projects, including those of Feist, Socalled, Jerusalem In My Heart and Martha Wainwright.
For its first album (to appear in 2013), AroarA sets to music 14 texts that make up “In the Pines,” a poetry collection by American Alice Notley published in 2007. To lighten up such dense subject matter, the couple opted for a spare musical style, languorous and sensual. Fascinating!
