Finally in Quebec City: Metallica
Quebec City, April 20, 2011 -
The fans are going to love it! The legendary band Metallica will be playing at this 44th edition of the Festival d’été de Québec, with the long-awaited performance set for Saturday, July 16 on the Bell Stage on the Plains of Abraham.
“This is a feat we’ve been dreaming of,” Dominique Goulet, Programming Director for the Festival d’été de Québec, proudly announced. “This has got to be the band that we get the most requests for! For years, Festival fans have been asking us for Metallica and we were finally able to line up their free dates with our schedule.”
In September 2009, singer James Hetfield told a Quebec City journalist that a show on the Plains of Abraham was definitely one of their priorities. “It’s on our ‘to do list’,” he said at the time.
Metallica will not be performing often this summer, and they promise to put on a super show with their greatest hits.
“Québec fans, and particularly Quebec City fans, have always been crazy about Metallica,” General Manager Daniel Gélinas pointed out. “We expect this show to draw one of the biggest crowds of the event. We already know that thousands of people will be coming from all over for the concert.”
Founded in 1981 and made up today of James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo, Metallica has sold over 100 million albums and has earned 9 Grammy Awards. In addition to that, the band got the honour of being named MTV Rock Icons in 2003 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.
Celebrated guitarist Joe Satriani will open for the American band, giving Kirk Hammett the chance to reunite with his former teacher. Satriani, nicknamed ‘Satch’, has taught guitar to a number of famous musicians. Influenced by Jimi Hendrix, he has played with Mick Jagger and Deep Purple and is a member of Chickenfoot, along with former members of Van Halen and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Dance Laury Dance will be first up on the stage that evening. These five festive rock’ n roll musicians from Québec won a Prix Miroir at the Festival d'été de Québec last year for their amazing performance at the Cercle.
