Thousands of people bought their Hydro-Québec Festival passes today. Patience was in order as the Festival’s website was bombarded by scalpers as soon as it opened at 10 o’clock this morning. Over 7 million orders came in the first hour, clogging the servers, but luckily, this was a situation that the Festival team was able to handle.

La pluie qui tombe sur Québec cessera en début de soirée si bien que tous les spectacles du Festival d’été de Québec ont lieu de même que la Traversée légendaire.

Ramon Kelvink Jr. marchera sur un fil d’acier de 16 mm de l’Édifice Price au Fairmont Château Frontenac. Une traversée de 30 minutes au son de la 5e Symphonie de Malher longue de 230 mètres et haute de 50 mètres.

En raison de mauvaises conditions météorologiques, le Festival d’été de Québec a décidé de reporter à demain dimanche la Traversée légendaire du funambule Ramon Kelvink Jr.

La pluie qui ne cesse de tomber sur Québec a en effet forcé le festival à prendre cette décision. « Il en va de la sécurité de notre artiste et nous ne pouvons courir ce risque », a déclaré le directeur général du Festival d’été de Québec, Daniel Gélinas.

Si la météo le permet, la Traversée légendaire aura lieu demain soir à la même heure soit 23 heures 30.

Sortez de vos bureaux, annulez vos diners, venez voir le funambule à midi aujourd’hui!

C’est finalement sous le soleil et à midi que le funambule Ramon Kelvink Jr traversera le ciel de Québec entre l’Édifice Price et le Château Frontenac. « C’est la météo qui nous force à prendre cette décision », a expliqué Daniel Gélinas, le directeur général du Festival d’été de Québec. « Des averses et des orages sont prévus cet après-midi et ce soir de sorte que nous devançons l’événement pour profiter du soleil et de la lumière du jour. »

Afin de souligner la Fête nationale des français le 14 juillet prochain, le Largo Resto-Club - La Maison du jazz convie les amoureux du jazz et de la langue française au spectacle du groupe KJK (Collectif jazz de Québec) dans le cadre du Volet Escales Vacances Transat. Ce collectif musical réunit les chanteurs Virginie Hamel et Renaud Paquet et certains des jazzmen les plus créatifs et réputés de Québec: Vincent Gagnon (piano), Guillaume Bouchard (contrebasse), François Côté (batterie) et Alain Boies (saxophone). That tops 2007, the year when the Festival reached the one million mark for the first time. The year of the 400th anniversary of Quebec City was exceptional with its 1,700,000 visitors. A study of attendance conducted this summer by the firm SOM also reveals that the Festival draws more and more tourists every year. In 2009, 40% of the clientele came from outside the greater Quebec City area. And the Festival is so popular that 25% of the local adult population took part. The satisfaction rate remains high, at 97%.

There is no doubt that this unilateral decision made by Spectra, the group that manages the FrancoFolies, without consulting the other Québec events, will have a negative impact on the Quebec City Summer Festival’s development and its national and international scope. “You can’t change event scheduling like this without upsetting the delicate balance in place and without having an impact on the other players,” according to Marie-France Poulin, chair of the Summer Festival’s board of directors. “This question has arisen every 2 or 3 years since 1997 and our answer has always been the same: we are against it because the risks for us are too high.”

The Marseilles-based collective IAM will be playing July 13 on the Plains of Abraham Bell stage, instead of Suprême NTM.

According to programming director, Jean Beauchesne, “Right up to the judgment, we were hoping for a suspended sentence for singer Joey Starr. Like other festivals, such as the Eurockéennes in Belfort, the Vieilles Charrues in Carhaix and the Paléo in Switzerland, we had to act fast.”

Today marks the beginning of The Legendary Crossing to be presented by the Quebec City Summer Festival on July 11 at 11: 30 pm high above the streets of the Old City when tightrope walker Ramon Kelvink Jr. crosses a 16 mm steel wire from the Price Building to the Fairmont Château Frontenac. A 30-minute crossing 230 metres long and 50 metres high to the strains of Mahler’s 5^th Symphony. The artist arrived in Quebec City two days ago to familiarize himself with the site and above all, to supervise and handle the technical preparations. He met with the press this afternoon.
