Miroir Awards
What is a Prix Miroir?
Since 1988, the Festival d'été de Québec has awarded the Prix Miroir to talented artists from here and abroad. Each year, the Festival asks a jury made up of music industry professionals to select outstanding artists or groups. The recipient of the Prix Miroir for the Most Popular Show is chosen by the public and the Prix Miroir Tribute is awarded by the Festival d'été de Québec.

$3,000 PrizeWinner 2010 : Yann Perreau
Awarded for a work primarily written and sung in French. It is judged on the quality of its lyrics and/or its composition and/or its interpretation.
Marathoner in every sense of the word, Yann Perreau once again drew a large crowd of fans with his energetic performance. Under a sweltering sun, Le serpent sous les fleurs was a lyrical celebration. His evolution as an artist shows that he is here to stay, with the music we love.
Miroir for World Music and Folklore
$3,000 PrizeWinners ex aequo 2010 : Staff Benda Bilili and Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba
Awarded to the artist having presented the best World Music and Folklore show. It takes into account the quality of its lyrics and/or its composition and/or its interpretation. World music includes music whose components (lyrics and/or composition and/or interpretation) are closely connected to the roots of the musical genre they represent. The repertory of the winning artist must be clearly associated with world music and folklore.
Staff Benda Bilili carried us away, as we were happily overwhelmed by their surprising energy and truly original sound. Hailing from the Republic of the Congo, the band captivated the public with their natural showmanship and generosity. A unique offering and an amazing story.
Malian musician Bassekou Kouyate and Ngoni Ba performed traditional music with the Ngoni, a Malian instrument of remarkable musicality played with impressive virtuosity. Above all, the stage presence, powerful voice and faultless performance of singer Amy Sacko had the crowd at the Metro Stage spellbound.
Miroir for Urban and Contemporary Music
$3,000 PrizeWinner 2010 : Radio Radio
Awarded to the artist having presented the best Urban and Contemporary show. The show is judged on the quality of its lyrics and/or music composition and/or its interpretation. Urban and contemporary music is defined as music whose components (lyrics and/or composition and/or interpretation) originate from urban cultures and/or music trends such as rap, electro, punk, metal, etc. The winning artist’s music must be generally viewed as urban and contemporary.
Radio Radio burned up the dance floor at the Impérial de Québec as the trio of funky rappers unleashed their electro hip-hop. Riding high on the success of their album Cliché Hot, Radio Radio released Belmundo Regal with passion and humour. Fresh dekshoo dancer, this band brings a breath of fresh air to the local urban scene.
Miroir for the Best Canadian Artist
$5,000 PrizeWinner 2010 : Dance Laury Dance
Awarded to the young Anglophone or Francophone Canadian singer-songwriter having presented the best show based as much on the quality of its lyrics and composition as on the interpretation of the works. The winning artist must have at least one album on the market and be recognized as an emerging talent.
Back from Los Angeles, Dance Laury Dance perverted and contaminated rock’n’roll fans at the Cercle. This Québec-based band delivered a solid performance that destroyed every cliché. Fully primed, they pushed their performance to the max. A wild night from a band to watch for.

With the St. Jean Gate as a perfect backdrop, Emir Kusturica & The No Smoking Orchestra blew the crowd away their first time in Quebec City. This brilliant, supercharged orchestra, perfectly attuned to its singer, delivered festive gypsy-style rock with musical brio and total improvisation, as the new Republic of Yugoslavia was born at Place D’Youville.
